How much do Zomato and Swiggy charge restaurants?
Commission is negotiated restaurant by restaurant and neither platform publishes a single rate card, which is why owners end up comparing notes over chai instead of comparing prices. What has been reported is the ceiling, and which way it is moving. In July 2025 MediaNama reported that Zomato added a long-distance fee of ₹20 per order for deliveries of 4 to 6 km and ₹40 beyond 6 km (on orders above ₹150), with total commissions including that fee capped at 30% of the order value. One owner quoted in the report said their effective commission went from 16% to 25% after the change.
Swiggy has no public rate card either. Whatever your contract says, the number to watch is your effective rate: total platform deductions in a month divided by total order value. Work it out from last month’s payout statement before you change anything.
What does that cost on real numbers?
Commission grows with your busiest weeks, and that is what makes it expensive. The table shows one month of app orders at two effective rates from the range above.
Which orders can you move to direct ordering?
Regulars and repeat guests. Someone who has eaten with you three times does not need an app to find you. Each order they place through an aggregator is commission paid on a guest you had already won.
Pickup and takeaway. A guest collecting from your counter never touches the delivery fleet. Put a QR at the counter, on the menu card and on the bag, and they can order pickup from you directly.
Dine-in. Nobody should be paying a per-order fee on a table that is already sitting in your room. With a QR at every table, guests order and pay from their own phone and the order goes straight to the kitchen display.
Which orders should stay on the apps?
Keep the apps for new guests who find you by browsing, and for deliveries to addresses you cannot reach yourself. That slice of the commission buys something real: discovery and a fleet. Stay listed, move repeat, pickup and dine-in orders direct, and you cut the bill without losing reach. One caution. Platform terms on price parity can bite if you offer a lower direct price, so read your contract first.
Five steps to start this week
1. Pull last month’s payout statement and calculate your effective commission rate. 2. Count how many app orders came from repeat customers or were pickups. 3. Put a table QR on every table and a pickup QR at the counter and in every bag. 4. Tell regulars yourself, at the table and on your receipts, that ordering direct is quicker. 5. After four weeks, put the commission you did not pay next to what direct ordering cost you.
What does zero-commission ordering cost with Zervoo?
Zervoo charges a flat monthly fee per venue, quoted up front, with no commission and no per-order fee on any plan. Guests pay through your own payment provider and Zervoo never holds your money. Take the middle row of the table above, and move a fifth of those orders direct: that keeps ₹8,000 to ₹12,500 a month in your account instead of the platform’s. See the pricing page, or read the real cost of commission-based ordering for the yearly view.

What is the maximum commission Zomato charges?
MediaNama reported in July 2025 that Zomato’s total commissions, including its long-distance fee, are capped at 30% of the order value.
Is QR ordering commission-free?
Depends who you buy it from. Zervoo charges a flat monthly fee per venue with no commission and no per-order fee; some QR tools charge a percentage per order, so ask before you sign.
Should I leave Zomato and Swiggy?
For most restaurants, no. Aggregators are worth paying for new guests and for delivery you cannot run yourself. Move repeat, pickup and dine-in orders direct and keep the apps for discovery.
How do I work out my effective commission rate?
Add up every platform deduction on last month’s payout statement and divide it by the total order value for the month.
